The Faculty’s role is to support and enable communities in New Zealand and internationally to meet the environmental, social and political changes of the 21st century. Staff are involved both in teaching a wide range of courses within the academic programmes of the University and in carrying out research in their areas of expertise.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES
Bachelor of Landscape Architecture
This Degree is accredited by the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA). Graduates are eligible to become registered professionals within both public and private sectors globally.
Lincoln University has an international reputation for excellence in Landscape Architecture.
The B.L.A. can be awarded with honours to those students who achieve a sufficiently high standard in their 4th year courses.
The B.L.A. specialises in: landscape and urban ecology, resilient landscape design, sustainable communities, structure planning, urban landscapes and indigenous Māori landscape design.
A period of Practical Work is a requirement of this qualification.
Bachelor of Environmental Management
As a graduate of Lincoln's Bachelor of Environmental Management you will develop the skills needed to sustainable manage natural resources and address a wide range of environmental problems. An industry-proven, multi-disciplinary degree, it equips students with the critical thinking and practical knowledge relevant to an exciting range of industries and sectors.
Learn crucial principles, strategies, tools and methods for effective environmental management, and be able to apply them in different contexts. This is ideal for those who want to understand the connections between social, economic and environmental issues and who have a 'can do' attitude to help address them.
Gain professional certification from the New Zealand Association for Resource Management (NZARM) and the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).
Bachelor of Tourism Management
This programme has been taught at Lincoln for more than 20 years. Almost every country in the world is growing tourism, this is 1 of the most rapidly growing industries in the world. There is an increasing demand for university graduates who have a specialised understanding of the requirements of this diverse and exciting sector.
The programme focuses on tourism in relation to people and places as well as businesses and has been designed in consultation with industry. Completing your Lincoln University degree specialising in tourism management means you'll have a qualification with strong theoretical and applied learning that gives a broad understanding of the industry at all levels, and trains you for positions of responsibility and management roles.
POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
Master of Disaster and Risk Resilience
This master's will be collaboratively taught by members of Lincoln University's Department of Environmental Management and the University of Canterbury’s Department of Geological Sciences.
students will gain:
- Understanding of the natural and societal causes of disasters
- Ability to analyse and critique strategies for disaster reduction
- Applying learning to specific disaster-reduction-related situations
- Practice in formulating risk communication, risk reduction and resilience strategies and communicating concepts to a wide audience
- Methodologies to build resilience
Both universities have experienced and learned much from the recent Canterbury earthquake sequence, and have been involved in national-level design of research programmes on Resilience to Nature’s Challenges. The programmes will allow students to access the complementary knowledge and expertise sets of each university, as well as increasing the scope of research projects.
Master of Planning
Master of Planning requires two years study. The degree is designed to meet the requirements of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI) and consequently has an emphasis on the New Zealand planning context. However, graduates are eligible for Graduate Membership of the NZPI, which has advantages if seeking employment in the UK, Ireland and Australia, as well as New Zealand.
This Master's degree covers urban, regional resource and environmental planning. Additionally, the degree provides flexibility to specialise in water, landscape, energy, transport, resilience, international development or indigenous and Maori planning through specified and optional electives.
Master of Pest Management
The University and Hub partners seek to address challenges around sustainable food production, more efficient land use, restoring and protecting water sources and fortifying the resilience of New Zealand's eco-systems. The Master of Pest Management will provide the advanced training and in-depth knowledge needed to find new solutions to predator eradication and biosecurity issues.
